Always Sleepy? Try this!

Feeling a bit sleepy this morning?  Let me help you with that.

There are many ways you can wake yourself up these days.  Coffee is the tried and true method, and while it has many health benefits, it is also highly addictive and can cause anxiety or other symptoms in some individuals.

So why not try some other beverages that are more lightly caffeinated such as green tea or even a single shot of espresso.  These drinks have around half the kick of regular drip coffee, and will wake you up while being more gentle on your digestion and, in the case of tea, lighter on your pocketbook as well.

Another way to get your body ready to wake up might be some light stretching in bed, or a quick ten minute yoga session if you like yoga.  This article also recommends light exercise, even just walking to another room in your house, or out to the mailbox to retrieve the paper.

Some people like to set out their things for the next day the night before.  Getting ready is less stressful when you’ve already made choices like what to wear and have packed a lunch that you can just grab from the fridge.

Another great morning ritual that is super easy is grabbing a shower.  It’s a great feeling, especially with the cooler December weather.

Some people also like to check in with themselves in the morning by doing something creative, like morning pages, or using a free online email service that will deliver a writing prompt.   Or try using this or this list of things you can sketch.

Another great way to make sure that you’re happier in the morning is to get up at the same time no matter what day it is.  This will become habitual and your body will adjust to the schedule, leaving you happier and healthier for it.
