Bonding and Trust

What I find most striking about this image is the child’s gaze. She is looking up at her parent measuring her with trust, affection, and in anticipation of learning how much she has grown since the two of them made the last mark on the wall. The young girl in this photo, my daughter, is just now graduating high school, about to take her first tentative steps into adulthood. In ways both literal and figurative, she has grown so much – taller, wiser. Maybe, in time, I’ll be there to take a photo of her doing the same thing with her daughter. One can only hope.
