Recently I visited a new public building in my city that was built to LEEDS certification standards. LEEDS is an internationally recognized green building certification system. To learn more see this Wikipedia entry.
In this new building is a “living wall” of live green plants which will help act as a year-round filter, cleaning the air of dust. During the hot summer months we encounter, the plants will help to cool the building by humidifying the air which will reduce the amount of air conditioning needed.
Hopefully measures such as these will help us reduce our energy consumption and also create healthier work environments.
