Know when to Hold ‘Em
In Texas Hold ‘Em Poker, a pair of aces is the best hand. Poker, as in all games of chance, is about controlling the factors that you can, and guessing about the factors that you can’t. It involves keen observation of other players, and an instinct for knowing when to use your pocket cards or the community cards to form your final hand. If you use your pocket cards, you risk other players trumping you. And if you use all the community cards, you risk splitting the pot equally. Poker is a little bit like life in that if you only rely on yourself, you might not have enough in your pocket for success. But if you always rely on the resources of others to fuel your winning you may have to take a smaller share.
In your life, if you don’t have aces, are you more likely to bet on your pocket cards, or do you rely solely on the community cards and just accept the split? What can you do this year to make sure your “pocket cards” in life are coming up aces? Is there a class you need to take, a project you should do, or a connection you must make in order to stack the deck in your favour? Let me know in the comments.
