Lest we Forget: Changing world boundaries
Today in Canada is Remembrance Day. Remembering and honoring the past and those who sacrificed their lives to make sure that we have the freedoms and rights that we claim today is important on so many levels. Not only does gratitude for our freedom help our own health, but it also helps those who may feel forgotten or misplaced within society. As we get older, our peer group begins to fall away, and we lose friends and family members to disease, death, and mental health issues like dementia and alzheimer’s.
This can lead competent seniors, who are often war veterans, to feel that they have lost their place in society. It is important to remember to connect with older generations as they not only hold a large amount of knowledge, but they are often helpful in putting our own struggles into perspective as they have probably been through something similar. Let’s not forget the sacrifices made on our behalf.
Do you have an older relative or friend that you support as they age gracefully?
