Nautilus – Image of the Week
The nautilus holds a special place in the design and art world as it is nature’s example of the golden ratio. These proportions (1:1.618) are thought to be aesthetically pleasing and have been used throughout history by architects and artists alike.
I recently finished this mosaic which is comprised of 1131 pieces of multi-level hand cut one inch slate. Many hours were spent refining the details and as I worked on it I came to appreciate the the subtle shades of green, purple and orange in the natural stone.
