A lot of the time, producing stock images is about making “readable” compositions that describe, illustrate, or communicate a concept or feeling. When they’re successful, perhaps others will use my image as a symbol that articulates an idea for them as well. I made this image with the concept of sustainability in mind. In my personal and professional life, I always try to live and work in the most sustainable way, recycling and repurposing as many of my materials as possible and avoiding harmful chemicals and practices. On a symbolic level, the mosaic of light green tiles stamped with a vivid green palm print represents our collective agency in realizing a sustainable future. If one of the blocks were to fall out of alignment with the others, so would the palm and the collective, responsible action it represents. Intuitively, one would expect the black of space to show through, and the image would suggest deterioration and entropy instead of integrity and support.
