Wine Mosaic
A while back I was commissioned to create a custom mosaic for some clients with a special request for it to have a wine theme. Over the course of a number of months I worked with them exploring different looks and tile sets until we finally settled on this still life image that is based on a photo that I shot in my studio.
I wanted to incorporate wine in some way in the creation of the piece so one afternoon they came over with a select bottle of wine and after a few sips we poured the remainder into some pans and I had them walk on the hand cut slate tiles after wetting their feet in the wine.
1792 of the resulting wine stained tiles were incorporated into the final mosaic, which not only added increased detail, but also an interesting story to tell.
